Mary Laura Richardson, BA, MS, RN, IBCLC claims that the Lactation Counselor Training Course (LCTC) to sit for the Certified Lactation Counselor examination changed her life.

Richardson was taught that week by Healthy Children Project’s Executive Director, Karin Cadwell, PhD. RN. FAAN, ANLC, CLC, IBCLC – a well-known professional in the field with years of research experience. She explains that the course helped her to realize that there is always a lot to learn in the field and the ability to make a difference is large. The course breaks a lot of preconceived beliefs and behaviors that have come to be set in stone for professionals doing this work for many years.

Richardson has dedicated her career to advocating and improving maternal and child health outcomes and has also passed the IBCLC certification exam. Her general piece of advice is: “Go the extra mile. Research, demand, and ask questions.”  As professionals and consumers, we can all continue our learning and advance our practices based on the most up-to-date and relevant information.
